The Savage B17 FV-SR is a bolt-action rimfire rifle chambered in .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire (.17 HMR), featuring a compact 16.25-inch heavy barrel, matte-black synthetic stock, and Savage's user-adjustable AccuTrigger system. Part of the company's modern B-Series rimfire lineup, the FV-SR combines a traditional manually operated bolt action with contemporary stock geometry, a detachable rotary magazine, and a threaded muzzle. This configuration is factory model 70803.

Savage introduced the B-Series to update its established rimfire rifle designs with revised ergonomics and a rotary magazine system. The B17 is the .17 HMR member of that family, using a redesigned receiver and bolt assembly housed in a molded synthetic stock. The stock features a relatively vertical pistol grip, raised comb, textured gripping surfaces, and a contoured fore-end. A recoil pad and sling swivel attachment points are also incorporated into the design.

A defining feature of the FV-SR configuration is its 16.25-inch heavy-profile, button-rifled carbon steel barrel. The barrel has a matte-blued finish and a threaded muzzle fitted with a protective thread cap. The B17 FV-SR feeds from a detachable 10-round rotary magazine, giving the rifle a standard 10+1-round capacity.
